A senior police officer was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after a two-vehicle crash in Warwick this morning, police have confirmed.

The Bermuda Police Service said that shortly after midnight, a report was received about a collision that involved a motorcycle and a car on South Road, near Warwick Park.

The motorcycle rider sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

The BPS said: “It was ascertained the driver of the motor car was a Bermuda Police Service senior officer.

“That officer has been arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

“A full investigation into the circumstances of the collision is under way.”

Police said that the matter was referred to the BPS professional standards department to make sure that a comprehensive examination of the incident takes place.

Darrin Simons, the Commissioner of Police, said: “This situation underscores a commitment that defines our service: we hold ourselves to the same level of accountability as we do any member of the public.

“Integrity matters. Trust matters. When our officers fail to meet the standards we set, we take action.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision was encouraged to call police on 211 with any information that may assist with the investigation.
