Man arrested for New Year burglary
Police have arrested a suspect in connection with an aggravated burglary on New Year’s Day.
A spokesman said a 39-year-old man believed to be responsible for the Hamilton Parish incident has been taken into custody but the investigation was ongoing.
Police earlier urged people not to share videos of the incident, which occurred minutes into 2026, throughout social media.
Acting Detective Superintendent Jason Smith, of the BPS crime division, said: “This arrest reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of our citizens.
“Acts that endanger the lives, peace and safety of our communities will not be tolerated.
“The BPS will continue to pursue those responsible and hold them accountable for their actions.”
The spokesman said: “The BPS commends the diligent work of its officers and investigators as well as the co-operation of community members, whose information assisted in advancing the case.”
