Police made 28 arrests between 5pm on Thursday and 5am today, about one third of which were for driving while impaired.

The Bermuda Police Service said that six people arrested for impaired driving were detained at roadside sobriety checkpoints, while officers encountered another three during routine patrols.

Police issued 100 tickets for various offences throughout the island over the period and recorded a motorist speeding at 107 kilometres per hour — more than three times the 35km/h speed limit.

A BPS spokesman said: “Police officers also responded to two unrelated incidents, each involving a bladed article, one in Hamilton Parish early on Friday morning and one in St George’s on Sunday night.”

He added that neither weapon was used to injure anyone and that two men have been arrested in connection with the incidents, with inquiries continuing.

Seven people remained in custody at Hamilton Police Station by 6.30am today and a man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the area of St Monica’s Road on Thursday night continued to recover.

The man’s injuries have been deemed non-life-threatening and nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
