Mayho claims another title on Front Street

Dominique Mayho showed what he had learned during two months of training with a pro riding team in France when he pedalled to a comfortable victory in yesterday’s IBC Criterium Championships on Front Street.Mayho, who will represent Bermuda at the Elite Caribbean Championships in Antigua next weekend, looked in top form as opened up a lead midway through the race and was never threatened as he completed the race in 49:16.657.Mayho suffered a setback in his first local race back on the Island last weekend when mechanical problems forced him to pull out of the time trial, but the teenager would not be denied this time as he left the field in his wake to win another title this season.Second overall among the men was Mayho’s Madison team-mate Neil Lupsic in 49:16.657 while Mark Hatherley of Winner’s Edge finished third in 49:16.688 in a sprint finish for second.Clifford Roberts of Fast Forward and Johan Vivier of Tokio completed the top five in 49:17.195 and 49:17.349 respectively while Leon Raynor of Crime Stoppers was sixth in 49:17.692.Nicole Mitchell, who will travel with Mayho, Hatherley, Darren Glasford and Geri Mewett to the Caribbean later this week, was the open women’s winner, as the Winners Edge rider finished ahead of Laurie Orchard in 40:30.358.e Orchard of Fast Forward was almost eight second behind in 40:38.115 while Earlena Ingham, also of Fast Forward, was third in 42:27.080.Nico Barclay was another rider from Madison taking line honours when he won the junior male race in 31:31.983 while team-mate Vashun Cann was second in 31:45.561 and Daniel Oatley of Fast Foward third in 31:46.076. Gabriella Arnold of Winners Edge beat Kamryn Minors to win the junior female race in 28:42.307 while Minors, of Tokio, finished second in 30:08.664.
