Hopkins and Mayho retain positions
In what was perhaps a predictably neutral 130-kilometre stage in the Vuelta Independencia ahead of the mountainous “Queen Stage” tomorrow, there was no change in the general classification in the Dominican Republic today.
Race leader Nelson Sanchez and his team allowed a small breakaway group of riders off the front who were no threat to his position.
Keeping the race under control when it came down to the finish, just four riders managed to stay clear with the main field including Kaden Hopkins and Dominique Mayho just 26 seconds behind keeping them in sixth and eighth positions overall.
Hopkins retains in the under-23 leader's jersey with a healthy 6min 27sec lead over second-place Dominican Stephen Polanco.
Tomorrow's stage is likely to see some major splits in the field as the natural climbers take advantage of the steep climbs over the final 50 kilometres.
The final stage will be held on Sunday.
