Jackson Langley cements spot at the top of MTB standings

Leading lady: Panzy Olander who came out on top in the Female Open 60 Minute Division

Jackson Langley cemented his place at the top of the One Communications MTB Series standings with victory in the fifth race of the season at Little Head Park on Sunday.

Competing in the Male Open 60 Minute race, Langley and Brian Steinhoff both completed a total of ten laps, but it was the former who triumphed in 1hr 51sec, nearly six minutes faster than his nearest rival.

Kavin Smith completed the podium places, managing a lap less in 1:00:14. The result leaves Langley leading the series standings on 112 points ahead of defending champion Smith on 89, with David Byrne a further five points adrift in third.

In the corresponding female division, Panzy Olander closed the gap on standings leader Wendy-Ann Thomas after taking the chequered flag.

The top three finishers all completed seven laps, but it was Olander, who came out on top in 1:00:04, four minutes faster than Cassandra McPhee (1:04:12), with Thomas settling for third in 1:08:07.

It means that Thomas remains top of the leaderboard on 109 points, four ahead of Charlotte Millington, with Olander now in third on 91.

Of the four riders competing in the Male Open 30 Minute division, Howard Williams prevailed after completing four laps, one more than his rivals, in 39:14.

Mike Belvedere was the runner-up in 30:05, ahead of Ryan Wilson (36:11) and Sherman Darrell (42:00).

The first three riders all completed four laps in the Male Novice Division, but it was Kareem Johnson heading the leaderboard in 34:19 to take victory ahead of Mark Richardson (35:25) and Richard James (39:12).

Only two competitors took part in the corresponding female division, with Arlene MacGuiness prevailing over Katrina Carr after completing four laps, one more than her rival, in 36:05.

In the Male 13-16 Division, Ray Richardson claimed victory after completing five laps in 34:12. Makao Butterfield settled for second, with the same amount of laps in 37:16. Lucas Bule was the other top-three cyclist after managing a lap less in 31:56.

Of the two riders in the Female 13-16 Division, Skye Ferguson beat Kelise Wade completing five laps in 37:37.

There was also joy in the Male 9-12 Division for Jonah MacGuinness, who managed to complete three laps in 20:33 ahead of Hannes Swart (21:27) and Alfie Jansma (21:45), who also finished three laps in the allotted time.

All three competitors completed three laps in the Female 9-12 Division, with Ruby Cook prevailing in (24:17), ahead of Ava Swart (27:14) and Holly Cook (28:16).
