Kaden Hopkins and Gabriella Arnold win top cycling awards
Kaden Hopkins and Gabriella Arnold picked up the top awards as the Bermuda Bicycle Association honoured the island’s cycling community at its 50th anniversary awards ceremony on Sunday.
Hopkins was on hand at Docksider to accept the male cyclist of the year award from BBA president Peter Dunne after winning the national road race and time-trial titles in Bermuda. He also finished fourth in the Pan American time-trial championships and sixth in the road race. He won the silver medal in the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships time trial and won the green jersey at the Tour of Guadeloupe.
Arnold, who was not in attendance, picked up the female cyclist of the year award after winning two silver medals at the 2024 Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships in Guyana and capturing the road race championship in June.
The junior rider of the year went to Jackson Langley, while the most improved junior award was given to Charlotte Millington, who won all three road national titles.
Nicholas Narraway won the most improved adult rider after capping 2024 with a silver medal in the under-23 time-trial At the Pan American Road Championships. He also won silver in the U23 time-trial at the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships in Guyana.
Lesley White picked up the club person of the year award after continuing to organise the marshals for the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race for the last three years and helping to make the organisation’s most visible event one with maximum security for competitors and spectators.
The race organiser of the year honour went to Darren “Shakee” Glasford, who co-ordinated the 30 BBA-sanctioned local races on the event calendar. His role brings together all the clubs to develop a calendar, oversee the allocation of events, and engage the Bermuda Police Service and the Department of Works & Engineering.
Nigel Godfrey won official of the year after demonstrating his effective officiating methods in overseeing local competitions.
