Kaden Hopkins wins time-trial in Guadeloupe stage race
Kaden Hopkins blitzed his way to victory in the third stage of the GP USL in Guadeloupe on Saturday.
Hopkins completed the 18 kilometre time-trial in 21min 5sec to take the stage win by 45 seconds over Kevin Cunff, the leader on general classification.
The Bermudian cyclist featured prominently during the four-day race after finishing fifth in the opening stage, thirteenth on stage two, winning the time-trial and finishing tenth on a tough mountain stage on Sunday to finish eighth on general classification.
After four tough days in the saddle and overcoming a couple of setbacks Hopkins was delighted with his efforts.
“I’m really happy with the weekend,” he said.
“The first day was very difficult and I didn’t think I would be able to do much but I finished with the front group.
“The second day I got a puncture at an inopportune time of the race but I chased back and got back in before the hard climbs. I lost probably 2min and 40 secs there, so that left me with all my main ambition on the time-trial and I rode a really good one.
“It wasn’t too special but I was happy with the performance and to get back on my TT bike as I haven’t done that too much recently.
That felt like a good prep for the time-trial at Nationals in a couple of weeks. Today was just a mountain day and I tried to limit my losses. It was pretty tough but a good weekend.“
