Kaden Hopkins wins two stages of Tour de Marie-Galante
Professional cyclist Kaden Hopkins is delighted with his performance at the Tour de Marie-Galante in Guadeloupe last week.
Hopkins won the prologue, the time-trial, and finished second and fourth in two road stages before finishing twentieth overall as he prepares for one of the biggest races in his 2025 calendar.
“It was a long, hard week and definitely ended better than it started,” Hopkins said.
“I won the prologue but it was pretty short, only about six or seven minutes, so it was not much of a proper time-trial. But the second one was definitely very difficult with a super-hard climb at the end.
“I was especially pleased with that victory, as it was the second race of the day. There was a road race in the morning and a TT in the afternoon. I had finished second in the road race but had been in a breakaway, so I was pretty cooked after the race and was just hoping I recovered well. But I then did one of the best time-trials I’ve ever done, so I was really happy with that.”
In just a couple of weeks, the Bermudian will compete in the Tour of Guadeloupe, in which he won the green jersey awarded to best sprinter last year, and he feels his performances over the past few days will benefit him now he has finally got to grips with a different racing style.
“It’s nice to just get some racing into my legs and get my final preparation for Tour of Guadeloupe,” he said.
“I was really suffering in the first two stages here, but felt better and better every day and then great in the last two days.
“The racing is less tactical than in mainland Europe, but it is still super hard. There are no teams here who really try to control everything, so if you want good results you have to be on the ball all the time.
“Here your first objective is always to get in the break, but I’ve now adapted to it and built some confidence here.”
Hopkins struggled to find a team in Europe this year, hence the switch to Guadeloupe, but he is confident that within the next month he will know exactly where he is riding in 2026.
“My agent and I have been talking to a lot of people and it’s already looking a lot better for next year,” Hopkins said.
“I should have something hopefully by the end of August. There definitely seems to be options for me to come back to mainland Europe.”
