Matt Boys and Sofia Leclerc claim top honours
Matt Boys and Sofia Leclerc began the second half of Bermuda Bicyle Association’s road season on a high note after clinching top honours in the VT Construction Criterium at Bermuda Motorsports Park in St David’s on Sunday.
Boys won the race by completing 27 laps of the course in 28min 19sec with Winner’s Edge team-mates Dylan Eiselt (28:19) and Darren Glasford (26 laps, 28:44) taking second and third respectively.
VT Construction rider Leclerc (29:47) completed 22 laps, one more than sole rival Riana Robinson (29:51), to take the women’s title in the 30-minute race.
Glasford also topped the Adult ‘B’ field with Sam Bullen (28:44) and Clifford Roberts (29:08) rounding out the top three, also completing 26 laps.
Jens Drea (29:19) led the field across the line in the 30 minute adult “C” race, He completed 25 laps as did the top eight finishers in the event. Neil and Jonah MacGuinness were second and third.
Ronan Davidge was the sole competitor in the 13-14 junior race, completing 13 laps in 20 minutes.
Maxwell Williams won the 12 and under junior race. He completed 13 laps, one more than Carter Davis and Fergus Murphy, who took second and third respectively.
Despite the low turnout at the east end facility, BBA president Peter Dunne was happy to see the road-racing campaign resume.
“This was the first event of the second half of the road season and we have six events between today and the end of October,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“Small turnout today but nice to see racing return and the young riders doing so well.”
