Bermuda’s cyclists are on the move with Conor White joining Kaden Hopkins in announcing a new team for 2026.

White will compete for Jakroo Handsling Racing in the UK next year and is relieved to have found a new team after the squad he raced for in 2025 disbanded recently when its main sponsor pulled out.

A link with the team director ensured that the 26-year-old could make a quick jump to a new home and White is determined to make the most of the chance.

“Originally I was meant to stay with the team that I was on this year but the team ended up folding,” he said.

“The team I’m joining now reached out to me earlier in the year and I had discussions with them before choosing to stay with the other team. But after finding out my team was folding, I reached back out and they were still keen on wanting me.

“The director from my team this year has gone over to them so I know him and he knows what type of rider I am. He’s seen me race all year and he knows how useful I can be on the team.”

But it’s not just on the roads with a new team where cycling fans can watch White as his ambitious plan to make it to a major Games as a track cyclist gathers pace.

White will head to Santiago for the Pan American track championships in February and will be the first cyclist to represent the island in the velodrome at continental level. The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is also on the agenda with the Scottish city keeping the track events but ditching the road races at its pared-down Games.

“This year will be slightly different in the fact that I'll be doing a lot more track racing,” White said.

“Usually I spend almost two months in Europe training but I'll only be there for about a month before I'll be heading down to South America for the Pan Am track championships.

“One of my main focuses is track at Commonwealth Games so it will be a busy year with lots of travel to new places and lots of staring at a black line. The only unfortunate part is it’s the same week as the CAC Games, so I have to decide between the two and I'm leaning towards Commonwealths because I have won a medal at the CAC Games and I do want to try something new.”

A lot of the focus on track cycling is in the sprint division, which tends to feature muscle-bound riders squeezing their huge frames on to a racing bike, but White has his eye more on endurance events.

“There’s two sides of track and I have no business doing the sprinting side because they are basically just bodybuilders on two wheels,” White said.

“I'll be doing all the endurance events and some of the best endurance track cyclists are also some of the best road cyclists. I have that base and power from the road to help me out so I’m pretty well suited for the track.

“I did a few events last year and some of them that I went to were at a far higher level than I was expecting and the technical ability was far above what I was expecting with the world and European champion in the race.

“I’ve definitely learnt a lot and I know I'm jumping in the deep end but hopefully I'll learn how to swim fast.”
