BPSU education awards

Union assistance: members and dependents of the Bermuda Public Services Union were awarded $30,000 in scholarships and bursaries by Jason Hayward, president of the union and Kevin Grant, chairman of the education committee

A union has handed out $30,000 in education grants to a total of 12 students.

The Bermuda Public Services Union gave the awards for study in Bermuda, online and at overseas educational institutions.

The BPSU has been offering scholarships to its members and their dependents since 1993 for both local and overseas education.

A total of six awards of $1,500 were given for on-island or online education and six awards of $3,500 were given for overseas education.

The awards were presented last Thursday.

Jason Hayward, president of the BPSU and Kevin Grant, chairman of the union’s education committee, said the union was committed to the provision of educational opportunities.

The recipients of the 2018 BPSU Education Awards were:

Kimber-lee Bean, Purdue University Global; Lauren Bell, Mount Saint Vincent University; Taylor Eve, University of Essex; Najah Garcia, Bermuda College.

Arianna Hodgson, University of Liverpool; and Michelle James, Capella University,

Tori Cariah, Georgia State University; Asia Denkins, Clark Atlanta University; Dakai Grant, Kingston University; Kayla Simpson, The University of Kent; Kallan Thomas, University of Brighton; and Amber White of Dalhousie University.
