BHS featured in Oxbridge guide to ‘schools of excellence’

The Bermuda High School for Girls has been featured with schools from around the world in an international publication. The Oxbridge Guide to Global Education and Skills 2011, created by the student unions of Oxford and Cambridge Universities, highlights schools across the world.Under the headline ‘Independent Thinkers,’ the publication promotes the school’s ‘holistic’ approach to education and wide range of extra-curricular activities, like the Round Square organisation.Noting the school is all-girls until Year 12, the publication quotes Head of Primary Marina Harris as saying: “There is a difference in the way boys and girls think and learn and I think having a single-sex school allows us to focus solely on what the girls need.”Principal Linda Parker said the school was approached for the project last year, and was excited to be involved.“The Oxbridge students conducted a survey with current students and lecturers in UK universities to identify schools of excellence around the world,” she said.“We were the only school in Bermuda who were invited to participate in this project.“We are excited and honoured to be included in such a prominent international publication, which has been distributed to University Admissions Officers around the world.”l Useful website: www.bhs.bm
