Warwick Academy goes retro with Book Week

Primary schoolchildren have put their noses into good books with a week of events to celebrate reading. The youngsters at Warwick Academy put aside the latest technology to enjoy the power of a good story.Book Week included classroom activities focusing around the theme of the teachers’ favourite books. The event kicked off with Françoise Wolffe, school librarian and Book Week organiser, designing a poster featuring primary school teachers holding up their favourite picks.Students also got the chance to share their favourite stories with their classmates at a pyjama day with both staff and students wearing their nightwear.A total of $1,000 collected during pyjama day will be split between The Reading Clinic and the Warwick Academy school library.Mrs Wolffe said: “Our primary students have welcomed Book Week with the same high level of excitement and enthusiasm over the years.“It is comforting to notice that despite what is said about the negative influence of video games and TV, young students continue to respond very positively to the power of a good story and are keen readers.”
