‘Restructured’ BEC office to reopen next month

The Bermuda Educators’ Council is undergoing a “restructuring”, with its offices expected to open in a new location next month.Exemptions Committee head Helle Patterson said the BEC is to hire a new executive director, as the previous director’s contract has expired.“My committee has started meetings for considering exemption applications which have come in so far,” Ms Patterson said. “In the absence of the executive director, I am receiving applications from the Department of Education’s Human Resources office.”The committee considers applications to place teachers who aren’t licensed in vacant positions in public schools. In order to be considered for an exemption, “the candidate has to have a degree and be enrolled in a postgraduate teaching certificate programme,” Ms Patterson said.A Ministry of Education spokesman said details on the restructuring would be made public when the process was complete.Useful website: www.moed.bm.
