A “new force in education” has been created by the merger of two groups. That was the assertion of Bermuda Education Network (BEN) director Becky Ausenda, announcing the group’s link-up with the Leaders in Field Education (LIFE) to form a new association for educators operating outside of schools.LIFE, an affiliation of educators across various organisations, opted to dissolve its organisation to join forces with BEN.Nineteen non-government organisations are new joined as the Bermuda Education Network, and a website has been launched.Said Ms Ausenda said: “One of BEN’s goals is to create exciting learning opportunities for Bermuda’s students through collaborations between field educators.“So far we’ve done projects with Bermuda National Gallery, Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, Masterworks Museum of Arts, Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation, Keep Bermuda Beautiful and Dolphin Quest. Working with these organisations is like discovering a treasure trove of great educational experiences.“Our job is to make sure that schools take full advantage of these national treasures.”The Bermuda Education Network is a registered charity that provides support to students in the public school system. Any non-government organisation that regularly provides educational programmes to the public may apply for membership.Useful website: www.ben.bm.
