Eleven of the island's teachers have been nominated for a top award.

The 2018 Outstanding Teacher Award, set up by the Bermuda Education Network, will be presented at the group's second annual Chinese new year celebration on February 17.

The teachers in the running are:

• Nisanthi Bailey, Dellwood Middle School

• Torri Lynn Correia, East End Primary

• Kim DeSilva, Southampton Preschool

• Tony DeSilva, Whitney Institute Middle School

• Kathy Ann Doers, Somerset Primary

• Nikita Euler, CedarBridge Academy

• Gina Evans, Northlands Primary

• Sharmaine Nusum, TN Tatem Middle School

• Helen Paynter, Whitney Institute Middle School

• Martin Pastor, Clearwater Middle School

• Keema Perry, St George's Preparatory

The event at the Hamilton Princess Hotel and Beach Club will also celebrate the hard work and dedication of Bermuda's public schoolteachers.

Becky Ausenda, BEN executive director, said: “Following the success of last year's event, we are pulling out all the stops to deliver the best Chinese new year celebration the island has ever seen, including a unique opportunity to experience traditional Chinese entertainment.

“Shuwang Yang, from Henan province, will dazzle people with his amazing face-changer performance.”

Money raised at the event will go towards the BEN's public school programmes, which support pupils and teachers and provide learning opportunities in the arts, science and sport.

Tickets are available at bdatix.bm, and include dinner and wine
