Schoolchildren returned to their classrooms today as in-class learning resumed at public schools across the island.

Public schools had transitioned to remote learning in early December after a surge in cases of Covid-19 across the island.

Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, said at the time the schools had been hit by “very high levels” of staff and pupil absences.

Remote learning was still in effect for pupils when classes resumed on January 5.

The Education Emergency Measures Committee announced on Sunday that the schools would reopen with strict health guidelines in place to prevent the spread of the virus.

Students today were welcomed with balloons and welcome back signs at Northlands Primary School.
