The Government has begun to accept bursary applications for the coming academic year.

The deadline for applications for the 2022 Public Service Bursary Award Scheme is April 29, with successful applicants to receive up to $20,000 per year for up to five years.

A spokeswoman said the scheme is designed to offer funding to Bermudians as they pursue post-secondary academic qualifications in areas that will “meet the future need” of government departments.

She added: “This ensures a well-trained cadre of people to fill positions within the public service.

“Bursaries are awarded by the Public Service Commission to selected applicants enrolled in courses of study at a university, college or other training institution in order to acquire professional or technical qualifications.

“The award is a contribution towards the student’s expenses and not expected to cover all costs. Other expenses, whether living expenses or tuition, are the responsibility of the student.”

Applicants must be Bermudian citizens, have completed at least five years of schooling in Bermuda and be aged 40 or younger at the time of their application.

They must also have been accepted into a programme that would lead to a professional, specialist or technical qualification that is required in the public service and be interested in pursuing a career in it.

Application forms are available at forms.gov.bm/Bursary and completed forms should be submitted online at www.gov.bm/online-services/public-service-bursary-award-scheme.
