BHS to introduce A-level courses next year
Students at Bermuda High School will be able to sit A levels from September next year.
The British-based qualification will now be an additional option to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in years 12 and 13, to all students in Bermuda.
The school said that with the introduction of the programme, students will have the option to choose the course of study which best suits them “personally, academically and aspirationally”.
Linda Parker, Head of School, said: “Our students will have the priority of places, and we anticipate that there are likely to be an additional ten to 15 places available for new students.
“By introducing this well-respected international qualification alongside our longstanding successful IB Diploma Programme, we are confident that this additional pathway will enhance the BHS experience for all of our current and future students, as they enter their last two years of high school.”
Most of the teachers at BHS have taught A levels before. Year 11 students will be the first cohort with this choice and they will make their decision in January 2023.
A levels are a British-based qualification, studied after GCSEs. It is a highly respected qualification which is recognised for higher education entry in Britain, North America and around the world. Students choose three or four subjects to study in depth over one or two years, with final exams marked on an A* to G grading scale, taken at the end of Year 12 and Year 13. Most universities and higher education institutes require a minimum of three subjects, sometimes based on certain grades in specific subjects.
