A former pupil of Saltus Grammar School has been appointed as its Deputy Head, it was announced yesterday.

Nadia Tuckett Robinson said the move would allow her to motivate young people from the perspective of someone who sat in the same classrooms.

She will become the first Black deputy head of Saltus in its 135-year history.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “Mrs Tuckett Robinson was selected from a strong pool of both local and international candidates.

“A proud Saltus alum of the postgraduate year class of 1995, she has over 20 years of experience in education.

“In the role of deputy head, Mrs Tuckett Robinson will have direct responsibility to oversee the school’s strategic-plan implementation and assessment as well as overall school operations, including risk management.”

Julie Rousseau, the Head of School, added: “We are thrilled that Ms Tuckett Robinson will be joining the Saltus community and we look forward to leveraging her strong skills and experience as she transitions into this role for the new academic school year.

“She will be a fantastic addition to our team and will contribute to our shared vision of providing high-quality education and support to all students, parents and staff.”

Ms Tuckett Robinson is a former family studies lead teacher and year head at CedarBridge Academy and has been a deputy principal at The Berkeley Institute for the past 11 years.

She said: “I am honoured, delighted and humbled to be given the opportunity to assume the position of deputy head of school at Saltus.

“I believe that by building relationships with all Saltus stakeholders — students, staff, parents, alumni and community partners — we can continue to grow the school as an outstanding educational institution.

“Together, we will ensure that Saltus forges ahead to realise the school’s mission of inspiring a passion for learning and independent thinking through a commitment to academic excellence, personal integrity and service to others.”

Ms Tuckett Robinson added: “As a graduate of the PGY Class of 1995, I also look forward to returning to assist students as they prepare for their scholastic futures.

“I see this as an opportunity to return to Saltus to give back, model and motivate our young people, as someone who has walked the same halls and sat in the same classrooms.”

Gil Tucker, who was appointed chairman of the school’s board of trustees in 2011, was one of the first Black pupils to attend Saltus Grammar School.
