Schools to receive more than 1,300 books for World Book Day
Schools will receive more than 1,300 books on Thursday in Nikita Robinson’s 14th annual book drive.
Ms Robinson is host of The Worship Room on radio station Magic 102.7.
The theme for this year’s World Book Day, which promotes reading for pleasure and aims to give every child a book of their own, is “Read Your Way”.
A statement said: “The love of literacy will spread from one end of the island to the other by community sponsors and reading volunteers.”
Volunteers will deliver 1,333 books to nursery and preschools.
They will also deliver books to 17 primary school classrooms and middle and high school libraries.
The statement added: “Kim Manderson, from the Department of Education, has lent her support again by retrieving specific book requests from the reading specialists at our public primary schools and Bermuda Education Network has lent their support with reading volunteers.”
This year’s sponsors include the Premier, David Burt, and his wife, Kristin, Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, former premier Ewart Brown, the Bermuda Health Council, One Communications and the Bermuda Public Services Union.
Visit the Bookmart at Brown & Co or call 279-5443 to purchase books or a gift card for a school that has not yet been adopted.
According to the statement, eight nursery schools, nine primary schools, two middle and two high schools need sponsorship.
