Proud day beckons for Care Learning Centre graduates
Students of a Pembroke school offering a pathway to alternative learning will don their caps and gowns this week as Care Learning Centre marks another graduation ceremony along with 42 years in operation.
Eight students who were successful in receiving their high school diplomas will be recognised for their achievements tomorrow.
The ceremony will be addressed by professional golfer Quinton Sherlock Jr, whose Ghanaian-based youth charity offers the General Education Development test and life skills development programmes in conjunction with Care Learning.
As the guest speaker, Mr Sherlock will highlight the success of 16 and 17-year-old students who passed their GED test before the school leaving age of 18
This year the school will present its Community Involvement Award to Keisha Allen-Smith, the founder of the tutoring service Target Learning.
Ms Allen-Smith’s company offers academic coaching for students aged 7 and up, including personalised tutoring and workshops for teachers and parents.
Care Learning was founded by Neletha Butterfield, a former Progressive Labour Party government minister.
The school will salute its GED students, in addition to the professional development and life skills programme students who achieved certification in the online programmes computer essentials, work essentials and money essentials.
Graduates will also be recognised for achievements in maths, social studies, science and language skills.
K’wondé Lathan, Care Learning Centre’s programme director, thanked members of the community for supporting the school’s programmes for young people seeking a high school diploma and upgrading their academic skills.
