Bermudian students find inspiration in Singapore
Young Bermudians have been immersed in new cultures while honing their leadership skills in Singapore this summer through the Mirrors Programme.
A government spokeswoman said 25 students and nine adults from Bermuda took part in the International SuperCamp in South-East Asia from June 28 to July 9.
The camp, part of a partnership between Mirrors and the US-based educational firm Quantum Learning, used principles such as integrity and balancing commitments to promote students’ personal development, academic excellence and social and emotional skills.
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, said campers returned from Singapore “inspired, confident and connected — not just to one another, but to a global community of learners”.
Ms Furbert added: “What they’ve gained through SuperCamp is more than skills, it’s a foundation for leadership and service.
“This experience is a powerful example of what is possible when we invest in the holistic development of our youth.”
The spokeswoman said that five emerging leaders earned “vital skills in facilitation, active listening and peer coaching” while three Mirrors staff members completed advanced training and led sessions during the programme.
Participants will use what was learnt in Singapore to have a positive impact on their community during the Mirrors upcoming Coaching for Success Programme between October and May.
The spokeswoman concluded: “This overseas experience has significantly enriched the leadership capacity of both the youth and adult staff, and will continue to elevate the transformative impact of the Mirrors Programme throughout Bermuda.”
