Bermuda College signs pact with University of Memphis
Representatives of the University of Memphis have signed an agreement with the Bermuda College.
The college said the pact with the university’s Herff College of Engineering was its “most comprehensive articulation agreement” in engineering.
It allows Bermuda College students who have completed an Associate of Science degree to transfer credits towards a specific bachelor’s programme in areas including electrical, civil, mechanical and computer engineering.
David Sam, the president of the Bermuda College, said: “By fostering strong articulation pathways, the college will ensure that educational programmes are aligned with industry needs, producing graduates who are workforce-ready and equipped with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge that employers demand today.
“Furthermore, from an institutional perspective, articulation agreements foster collaboration between academia and industry, which is crucial for ensuring the relevance of the curriculum.”
Ali Arouzi, the interim vice-president of academic affairs at the college, added: “These agreements are designed to create clear, efficient pathways for students to transition smoothly from associate to bachelor’s degrees and beyond.
“By streamlining credit transfer processes and aligning curricula, the agreements reduce barriers that often delay student progress.
“Students are more likely to complete their programmes on time, with less financial worry and with greater confidence in their career paths.”
He said the importance of the agreement with the University of Memphis extended beyond individual student success.
He said: “It serves as a strategic tool to address the pressing skills gap faced by the engineering and technical sectors.
“As Bermuda College continues through these types of collective efforts, it will establish a complete network of pathways that empowers students, strengthens industry partnerships and enhances the institution’s reputation.”
The college said the deal with the University of Memphis marked its 41st overseas agreement to date.
It has forged partnerships with accredited colleges and universities in Canada, Britain, the US and the Caribbean, creating transfer pathways for Bermudian students to further their studies.
