Family Centre welcomes donation for skills programme
A charity that offers therapy for children and families has received a grant for a programme aimed at teenagers.
Family Centre welcomed the donation from the Lincoln Financial Foundation, a US-based organisation, to fund its Youth Leadership Academy programme.
The YLA helps middle school and high school pupils learn confidence, resilience and leadership skills.
Family Centre and the Lincoln Financial Foundation declined to reveal the amount of cash offered.
Sandy De Silva, the executive director of Family Centre, thanked the Lincoln Financial Foundation for its support.
She said: “Their generosity ensures that youth have access to transformational support, mentorship and opportunities that prepare them to thrive in school, work and life at no cost to their families.
“Together, we are helping youth realise their potential and build pathways to successful, self-sustaining futures.”
The Youth Leadership Academy is a three-phased programme designed to prepare young people ready for life after school, from postsecondary learning to entering the workforce.
The academy’s Build My Future summer internship programme places youngsters with paid internships, where they receive workforce training and experience.
The YLA further provides support programmes such as one-on-one counselling, volunteer work, academic coaching and skill-building workshops.
