‘Excellent’ students receive academic boost
Four “excellent” residents of Hamilton Parish have received a financial boost to further their education.
Malaysia Roberts, Justin Bascome-Dickinson, Tcherari Kamarahe and Zyare Outerbridge were provided with scholarships by the Hamilton Parish Council, which received a grant from the Lyceum Trust to assist the students.
The quartet was shortlisted after the council received applications for the annual award.
To qualify, applicants must be residents of the parish who have completed their freshman year at college.
They were required to submit ideas about ways to give back to the parish.
Ms Roberts, a graduate of The Berkeley Institute, is studying social work at Barry University in Florida.
Mr Bascome-Dickinson, who attended the Bermuda Institute, is studying architecture at the University of Central Lancashire, and Ms Kamarahe, who was a home school student, is studying visual arts at the University of Kent, both in England.
Mr Outerbridge, also graduate of The Berkeley Institute, is studying sports at the Royal National College for the Blind in Britain.
The council said that the committee members enjoyed meeting the scholarship applicants and learning about their future goals.
It said financial need, academic achievement, community service and extracurricular activities, among other matters, were all carefully considered.
The committee said it found the applicants to be “very impressive”.
