A challenge that was designed to build literacy and a love of reading among young people was successfully completed by 51 students this summer.

Bermuda National Library’s youth library reading challenge “Level Up at Your Library” was sponsored by KFC.

The company donated 51 gift cards, one for every finisher, each valued at the cost of a Kid’s Meal.

It also rewarded young readers who completed level 1 of the programme with a $2 gift voucher that they could use towards the purchase of a Kids Meal.

Marla Smith, a youth services librarian, said: “Level Up at Your Library energised our young readers and gave them a tangible goal to work towards.

“We’re grateful to KFC Bermuda for rewarding every child who completed the challenge.

“Their support helps us motivate children to read more, explore new stories and build confidence that will carry into the classroom and beyond.”

Ginene Haslam, the restaurant general manager at KFC, added: “We’re thrilled to celebrate these dedicated young readers.

“Reading opens doors. By supporting Level Up at Your Library, we’re investing in Bermuda’s future and applauding kids for reaching their reading goals — with a tasty treat to say well done.”

The fast food company said its contribution underscores its ongoing commitment to community partnerships that support education and families across the island.
