Barbershop’s giveaway readies pupils for the big day

A team of barbers joined forces at the weekend with volunteers to deliver free haircuts and braiding to more than 70 children heading into their new school year.

Luxury Cuts Studios on Reid Street in Hamilton said the event on Sunday prepared youngsters for their return to class “looking fresh and confident”.

Kenton Trott, owner of the business, called the event a “memorable first” for the shop.

He added: “This is just the beginning. We look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come.

“Special thanks to Vasco da Gama president Miguel Pereira for his partnership and allowing us to use the club hall and provide clean facilities and water for all — well done to all.”

Barbers Ivorie West, Jabari Darrell, Bresly Gomez and Ross Obando were joined by members of the community, along with volunteers Candiss and Onika Outerbridge, in bringing “a joyful atmosphere for the families and children”.

School bags and supplies were given out with the support of Family Centre, and sponsorship came from Jeff Richardson, Zico Jones, Somerset Bridge Recreation Club, Think Real Estate, Ty Phillips of 80 Proof, The Play Company, Kendra Thomas and Fire Blacks entertainment.
