Portuguese classes for adults resume next week
Adult Portuguese language classes are scheduled to start up again next week, with the Portuguese Cultural Association urging those interested to sign up.
The next block of classes, held at the Portuguese School classroom in the Vasco da Gama building on Reid Street, will start on September 15 with registration open now.
Each block is expected to last 12 weeks, although duration could vary to ensure all the required materials are covered.
A spokesman for the association said: “Registration will be limited to 20 students per block and will be on a first-come, first served basis.
“We will maintain a waiting list of those interested to fill spots as individuals withdraw or decline to make payment. There are still a few spots open for next week.
“Access to each individual block comes with a minimum donation of $400 to the PCA, to be paid by the Friday of the first week of each course. We encourage early payment to guarantee your spot.
“However, we are also offering bulk discounts for anyone wishing to guarantee their spots for future courses. If you pay a minimum donation of $650 you will gain access to two blocks.”
The spokesman said the classes ran in accordance with the Quadro de Referência para o Ensino Português no Estrangeiro, the official framework for teaching Portuguese as a foreign language, sponsored by Camões — the Institute of Cooperation and Language, IP.
“This is the institution dedicated to the worldwide promotion of the Portuguese language, Portuguese culture and international aid, on behalf of the Government of Portugal,” the spokesman added.
“We also take this opportunity to remind the public that the association has become affiliated with Camões, IP. This is a seal of quality as the association must meet a number of accreditation requirements in order to remain affiliated.”
