Somersfield Academy is to host an open house next week titled Journey of Discovery.

Families were invited to the special event on Thursday to explore the Montessori philosophy and curriculum.

School staff will make the case that starting a child’s formal education at age 3 provides a strong foundation for lifelong success.

The journey through Somersfield’s Montessori programmes starts in the Children’s House, for ages 3 to 6, and continues into the lower primary years of P2 to P4.

Attendees will gain hands-on experiences with Montessori learning materials and have opportunities for personal conversations with the school’s Montessori-trained teachers.

The activities were designed to provide insight into how the approach can empower children to think critically, solve problems creatively and develop confidence.

Janice Outerbridge, the head of Children’s House and primary at Somersfield Academy, said: “Montessori education goes far beyond memorisation. It encourages curiosity, resilience and a genuine love of discovery.

“This event will give families the chance to experience how our classrooms move children from guided exploration to independent understanding, and how these early years truly shape the learner for life.”

The school said its curriculum aims to blend “academic excellence with innovative, child-centred teaching strategies that inspire socially conscious, independent thinkers”.

The open house will run at Somersfield Academy on September 18 from 5.45pm.
