Somersfield students last week celebrated the International Day of Peace with a ceremony led by its newly appointed Student Leadership Council.

The ceremony, held on September 19, featured speeches from each of the SLC members including Dezirae Darrell, the SLC president, who highlighted the importance of promoting peace by standing against injustice, embracing diversity and working for a more compassionate society.

Yemaya Iris, the SLC chair of diversity, meanwhile said that peace is built on the concepts of justice, equality, kindness and inclusion, encouraging people to speak up against wrongdoing.
