Hands-on experience: Daniel Cabral contributed to the submission of a request for proposal (Photograph supplied)

An engineering student gained insights into the operations of the island’s power supplier this summer while working with the firm iEPC Limited.

Daniel Cabral, who is studying for a Bachelor of Mechanical engineering at Dalhousie University, got course credit for his work from April to August in the engineering division.

The firm is owned by ReGen, part of Liberty Group, which also owns Belco.

Mr Cabral’s hands-on experience included a contribution to the submission of a formal request for proposal for a “large-scale” solar project.

It was his second time working with iEPC after joining last year as a summer student.

He said he was drawn to its “collaborative atmosphere and exposure to high-level local engineering challenges”.

He added: “My main position was on the mechanical engineering team, where I provided ongoing support to iEPC project leads across all three key disciplines.

“This often involved conducting site inspections, drafting engineering drawings and developing client fee proposals.”

Azeem Khan, the ReGen managing director, thanked Mr Cabral for “valuable input into ongoing projects”, reflecting experience gained outside the classroom.

He added: “On behalf of the entire team, I wish Daniel every success with his studies and look forward to him returning to Bermuda to help build a sustainable future for the island.”
