Bermuda Union of Teachers selects executive committee
The Bermuda Union of Teachers had nominated a new executive committee after its 42nd annual conference came to a close.
Jonathan Tankard was re-elected as president, while Denise Booth was ushered in as vice-president.
Jutkita Wilson and Maxine Webb were also selected as recording secretary and treasurer of the BUT.
The approval came during a four-day conference, when educators on October 17 cast their votes.
Members participated in a bowling tournament the next Saturday to help build competition and camaraderie among attendees.
The next day, they took part in the Vendors’ Market at Pier 6 on Front Street, Hamilton, free of charge in a gesture of support for small business.
The conference ended with a professional development day that involved learning opportunities delivered virtually and in-person.
The workshops, presented by guest speakers and teachers, covered topics that focused on improving instruction, maintaining wellness and building student success.
The day ended with the Biennial General Conference, during which time the executive team was announced.
In addition to the core leaders of the executive team, Dennis Ball and Wade Herman were named the union representatives for senior school teachers.
Chevonne Furbert and Angelika Marshall were named representatives for middle school educators, while Pauline Cameron, Makeila Ming, Melanie Seymour and Crenstant Williams were named as the union representatives for primary school teachers.
Shunna Muhammad was deemed the representative for preschools, Suzette Bean the representative for counsellors and Georgina Tucker-Bell the representative for specialists.
Laurel-Ann Burns will represent administrative staff, Tiffany Lathan will represent paraprofessionals and Prinzine Bailey will be the attendance officer representative.
