A conference last month in Bridgetown, Barbados, on disabilities and inclusive education heard from Crystal Caesar, the Minister of Education.

Ms Caesar attended the Caribbean Disability Network’s second annual Caribbean Disability Conference, under the theme “Breaking Barriers: Advancing Inclusive Education for All Abilities.”

The Bermuda delegation included Lisa Reed, executive officer at the Bermuda Human Rights Commission, with government officials, teachers and various service providers.

Ms Caesar, who was invited to address the final plenary session, told the gathering that the Bermuda Government was committed to “a future where social exclusion is replaced by belonging, where services are dignified and accessible and where every person has the opportunity to fulfil their potential”.

Attendees closed the gathering by agreeing to adopt a Caribbean Declaration on Inclusive Education, with a regional action plan to drive implementation.
