Workshop for college applicants to ‘put their best foot forward’

Students with their sights set on college, scholarships and other advanced studies have been offered a two-session workshop, free of charge, to help them craft “compelling and authentic personal statements that strengthen their applications”.

The first of four “Statement Fridays” is on offer by the Mirrors Programme this Friday at 4pm for students aged 15 and up.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, said it would give young people “the confidence and tools they need to tell their unique stories and pursue higher education with purpose”.

Letitia Washington, the prevention services co-ordinator at Mirrors, added that the workshops had come out of the success of personal development training in the PeerForward college and career readiness programmes.

She added: “Our goal is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to put their best foot forward in their applications.”

Details about Statement Fridays can be found online.
