Reinsurance company supports sailing charity

Reinsurance firm Pacific Life Re has thrown its support behind a charity that promotes experiential learning through sailing.

A statement said the company’s support of Endeavour helps “provide hands-on learning opportunities that foster critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving skills both on and off the water”.

Endeavour has worked with more than 8,000 students since it launched ten years ago, and youth from 13 different schools took part in the charity’s science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics education through sailing programme during the 2024-25 academic year.

Participants learn about wind power and measurement, buoyancy and other Steam concepts during the five-day programme.

David Howell, chief executive of Pacific Life Re, said: “We believe that investing in education and skills development are the foundation for a brighter future for the next generation.

“Endeavour’s innovative approach to combining Steam learning with sailing reflects our shared commitment to growth, inclusion and community impact.”

Jennifer Pitcher, Endeavour executive director, said: “This support enables us to continue delivering hands-on learning experiences that inspire young people from all backgrounds, and strengthen their understanding of Steam while deepening their connection to our island’s maritime heritage and marine environment.”
