Forum to share tips on navigating world of university
A course on preparing to thrive at university will feature students and recent graduates to share their experiences and tips on how to flourish.
The University Power Skills presentation is set for December 17 at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium in CedarBridge Academy from 5.15pm to 7.15pm.
Speakers include Adriana Burchall, an investment analyst with Hudson Structured Capital who is pursuing her master’s degree in statistics and data science at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.
Ms Burchall, a past Axa XL scholar, will present on “finding purpose, people and possibility” in university.
Attendees will also hear from Kayode George, a film-maker and recent graduate from the Toronto Metropolitan University, who received a bachelor’s degree in film studies.
Ms George was also awarded the Achievement in Screenwriting for her film Outcasted at the Toronto Met Film Festival in 2024.
She will present on “five tactics for mind, body and soul wellness”.
Ava Gibson, a law undergraduate at University College London in England, will give a presentation on “busting myths about public speaking”.
Ms Gibson, a recent Conyers Scholarship recipient, will also share tips on scholarship applications.
The event will hear from Marli Spriggs, a third-year undergraduate studying philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Warwick in England.
Ms Spriggs will speak on “seven strategies to balance academics, extracurricular activities and fun”.
The Nicholl Scholarship recipient will cover avoiding deadline stress and making the most of office hours, as well as giving advice on scholarship applications.
The night’s events will come with entertainment, including music by DJ Outlaw, along with prizes and a dance competition.
