Somersfield students to showcase talents next week
Members of the public can vote for their favourite student-made project at Somersfield Academy next week.
A spokeswoman invited residents to the M5 pupils’ Personal Project Exhibition in the school’s gymnasium.
She explained that the showcase — the culmination of Somersfield’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme — represents a “yearlong process in which students explore a topic of personal interest, set a learning goal, conduct research and produce a final product supported by reflection and action”.
Representatives from several organisations, including the Bermuda National Gallery, Greenrock and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, have attended past exhibitions.
Attendees can vote for the most original idea, outstanding craftsmanship and other categories during the opening reception on February 5.
Cathy Schlei, a programme co-ordinator for Somersfield’s International Baccalaureate programme, said: “Introducing audience awards adds a meaningful layer of community engagement to the Personal Project Exhibition.
“It encourages students to communicate their learning clearly, invites visitors to reflect thoughtfully on the work they see and helps students understand the value of audience feedback in real-world contexts.”
Student projects this year include custom-built remote controlled vehicles, an original song and music video, a handmade surfboard and hypoallergenic dog biscuits.
The exhibition will take place from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on February 5 and 10am to midday on February 6.
