World Book Day returns for new chapter

Residents were urged to give the gift of literacy this week as Bermuda marks World Book Day.

Nikita Robinson, host of The Worship Room on Magic 102.7FM, called on the island to mark the event on Thursday to support a school of their choice by buying or reading their favourite book.

Ms Robinson said 1,337 books will be delivered to 37 pre or nursery schools throughout the island in celebration of the event.

“Each preschooler will receive their very own book,” she said. “In addition, 15 public primary school reading classes and public middle and high school libraries, as well as the boys and girls homes will be receiving books as well.

“The love of literacy will be spread from one end of the island to the other by community sponsors and reading volunteers.”

Anyone interested in taking part was invited to visit or call The Bookmart to purchase books or a gift card for a school that still needs donations.

Ms Robinson added: “All 37 nursery and preschools on the book drive list have been sponsored, but there are just a few primary schools that either need cosponsors or additional books to be purchased.”
