A happy day’s reading with youngsters across the island

Youngsters across the island got treated to the joy of reading as volunteers called on their nursery and primary schools for World Book Day.

The commemoration is organised annually by Nikita Robinson, the radio host of The Worship Room on Magic 102.7.

“We had a great time,” Ms Robinson said of her reading with children at Heritage Nursery and Preschool in Hamilton. The broadcaster brought along four books — including Sandra Boynton’s Barnyard Dance!

“The thing I like about reading is getting the kids involved, so I had them doing all the little dances. Then I can’t wait to receive from photos and videos from the different readers.”

World Book Day is marked on the first Thursday of March — but anyone still wishing to donate to the cause can call The Bookmart at Brown & Co, at 279-5441, to be guided through the process.

Gracious donation: Jeffrey Trott, left, delivered books to Purvis Primary School on behalf of the Lions Clubs of Bermuda (Photograph supplied)

Jeffrey Trott, of the Lions Clubs of Bermuda, headed to Purvis Primary School in Warwick to delivered the group’s book donations.

Mr Trott came with 18 books, chosen off the visiting Logos Hopebook boat, to Year 5 pupils. His wife, Crystal, an English teacher at the school, helped choose the material.

Lions rallied last year to give away 600 books — and Mr Trott said children were “extremely excited to have the books” this year at Purvis.
