More than 60 Bermuda kites donated to pupils

P1 pupils receive traditional Bermuda kites through a donation by Focus Counselling Services (Photograph supplied)

Primary students from three schools were gifted traditional Bermuda kites by Focus Counselling Services as Good Friday celebrations approach.

P1 pupils at Somerset Primary, West End Primary and East End Primary benefited from the donation organised by Gary Wellman, a master kite maker who designed and built the 60-plus kites alongside Ronald Burrows.

Leslie Grant, the executive director at Focus and a former student at Somerset Primary as well as West End Primary, expressed his gratitude after making the presentations.

He said: “This is the second time Focus Counselling clients have chosen West End Primary and Somerset Primary, mainly because both are my alma mater.

“We chose East End Primary because it is our neighbour.

“We’re hoping to make this an annual event and be ongoing for as long as we can, so that one, we can keep the tradition of the Bermuda kite going and, hopefully, at some point, we or others can support in teaching how to make these kites.”
