Bermuda residents who graduated from the University of Bristol will network and celebrate the school’s 150th anniversary at the Botanist Café & Garden Lounge in Paget next month.

University alumna Tammy Richardson-Augustus, a lawyer and former Woman of the Year, is organising the event, one of many planned worldwide to celebrate the milestone anniversary, on September 30.

A statement said the anniversary comes as the university opens the Temple of Quarter Campus in Bristol and the Mumbai Enterprise Campus in India.

The Bermuda gathering, set to run between 5.30pm and 7pm, will take place before most other celebrations scheduled between October 3 and 11.

Ms Richardson-Augustus said: “For our distinguished Bristol alumni community, gathering ahead of the global programme feels entirely natural.

“It reflects our genuine eagerness to be involved and Bermuda’s instinctive understanding of how essential it is to stay connected, locally and globally. We’re delighted to bring the Bristol spirit to Bermuda.”

Michael Spurling, founder of Raleigh International and former partner at Appleby, also graduated from the University of Bristol (Photograph supplied)

Other Bermudian-based Bristol alumni include Michael Spurling, founder of Raleigh International Bermuda and former partner at Appleby; independent senator Tawana Tannock; paediatric dentist Helen Christopher; and Deborah Atwood, curator at the National Museum of Bermuda.
