The Queen of Bermuda will help ring in the start of Pride celebrations this weekend with a full day of meet-and-greets.

Mark Anderson said he will be dressed as his alter ego, Sybil Barrington, in several spots in Hamilton today – and encouraged the public to say hello and bring their Pride flags.

He added that the meet-and-greets will kick off two other events he will hold this weekend.

Mr Anderson said: “When it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, no matter what one person does, everybody brings support for all, no matter what part of the community you come from.

“Everybody supports one another. It’s all about support.”

He added: “Despite the challenges we still have to have acceptance and inclusiveness, and despite our ethnic, religious and cultural differences, we are more alike than unalike.”

Mr Anderson will be at the Crow Lane roundabout today from 6.30am to 9am where he will wave and offer well wishes to motorists.

He will then move to the Bird Cage on Front Street to wave and give passers-by a chance to take photographs with him from 9.15am to 10.15am.

Mr Anderson said that he was also invited to greet passers-by on Par la Ville Road near L’Oriental, which he says is “The Wall Street of Bermuda”, between noon and 2pm.

Mr Anderson said the meet-and-greets would be an opportunity for younger people, those still in the closet or more reserved members of the community to celebrate Pride in a more restrained manner.

Mr Anderson said that he was also helping to organise a Pride miniature boat cruise with the Uber Vida yacht from 10pm to 11.30pm today.

He added that he was also helping to organise a happy hour celebration on Saturday at Casey’s bar from 5pm to 10pm.

Tickets will be $50 at the door for an open bar experience.
