Free movies to be screened in parks monthly through October
Residents and visitors can watch family films at parks and on beaches around the island this summer — completely free.
The Department of Parks will offer this through its monthly Movies in the Park initiative, which will run from July until October.
A government spokesman said: “The series aims to unite the community, create lasting memories.”
Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, said the initiative highlights the Government’s commitment to “fostering a vibrant and inclusive community by offering free entertainment options for everyone”.
• Avatar: The Way of Water will be shown at the Botanical Gardens on July 8. The event will open at 6pm and screening will be at 7.30. The rain date is July 15.
• People can watch Minions: The Rise of Gru and Sing 2 at Chaplin Bay on August 12. Opening time is 5.30pm and the films will be shown at 7pm and 9pm, respectively. August 19 is the rain date.
• Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse will be shown at the Arboretum on September 2. This event will open at 5.30pm and screening will be at 7pm and 9pm, respectively. The rain date is September 9.
• People can head to the East End on October 7 to watch The Little Mermaid (2023) and Strange World at Clearwater Beach. It will open at 5.30pm and the screenings will be at 7pm and 9pm. The rain date is October 14.
Moviegoers can also purchase food and sweets from local vendors at the events.
As chairs and blankets will not be provided, people are encouraged to bring their own.
