The screening of a film spotlighting the island’s culture is among several events to be hosted by the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute this month.

The institute will partner with SJD World to host an exclusive premiere for the international award-winning film Thoughts Become Things tomorrow.

The event includes the debut of Decoding Thoughts — a behind-the-scenes short documentary which explores deeper meanings of the film.

At the showing, which starts at 6pm, patrons will be treated to an “immersive journey” through Bermudian culture, the BUEI said.

It said the fundraising event supports its programmes and the film’s costs to complete its final journey leading up to its public release on YouTube this August.

Tickets for the evening cost $50 and include drinks, food and live entertainment featuring a special performance that recreates a key scene from the film.

There will also be a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers.

On Saturday, the BUEI will host its popular Kids’ Hour Saturdays with two sessions — one at 11am and another at 2pm.

The theme this month is the puffer fish, and it comes with the short film Real Science: The Insane Biology of the Puffer fish and an interactive book reading of How To Hug A Puffer fish by Ellie Peterson.

It comes with fun and creative education activities for toddlers up to preteens, and complimentary admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre.

The event is free for BUEI members and adults accompanying children. It costs $5 per child for non-members.

On July 25, the BUEI will kick start Cup Match celebrations with a sunset cruise aboard the vessel Zara.

Patrons can dress in their favourite team colours, enjoy a themed welcome drink sponsored by Gosling’s, nibble on bites from Fourways Inn and kick back for the two-hour sunset cruise departing Hamilton at 6pm.

Proceeds supports the BUEI’s education programmes and maintenance of the Ocean Discovery Centre.
