A Bermudian family have become a viral sensation after a video of two sisters dancing at a tennis tournament took over social media.

Sanzia and Jada Pearman became an online hit when they sparked a dance battle at the US Open Tennis Championships this week.

The sisters’ moves — and their grandmother’s unenthusiastic reaction — were filmed and shared over the video platform TikTok, garnering thousands of views.

Their performance was even picked up by local news stations and featured in the US-based international sports network, ESPN.

Sanzia Pearman, 23, whose own version of the video had been seen more than 999,000 times as of publication, admitted that her new fame felt “weird”.

However, she added: “I'm a performer, so I love to do stuff like this.

“We used to perform in our living rooms and now we’re on the Jumbotron.”

Ms Pearman said the dance-off happened after her grandmother, Joanne Maybury, took her and her sister to the US Open in Queens, New York.

She said that this was her first time at the annual event, which ends tomorrow, and that she saw this as a chance to bond with her grandmother.

Ms Pearman said she and her sister, both of whom are dancers, were committed to appearing on the tennis court’s Jumbotron by catching the camera’s attention.

She said: “They caught us while we were dancing and we decided to bust out a dance move or two.

“They kept flipping back and forth to other people and coming back to us. It was like a dance-off.

“They would make other people dance in the stadium and come back to us.

“It’s was just so funny because I guess people had filmed it.”

Ms Pearman added: “It’s crazy — we were leaving and people were like ‘you guys were the best part of the tennis match, you were so funny.’

“As we were walking out, people were sending me their videos that they had taken.

“Now other people are posting on TikTok their videos of us and they’re going viral.”

Ms Pearman is no stranger to internet recognition. She said that she uses her TikTok account as a vlog, where she posts daily.

Her account now has about 10,900 followers and averages several hundred thousand views per video, with her most popular video having 2.3 million views.

However, Ms Pearman said that about 400 of these new followers came after posting her video on Monday.

As for her grandmother, Ms Maybury’s unimpressed reaction was the centre of plenty of comedic responses to Ms Pearman’s video.

Ms Pearman told The Royal Gazette: “My nana called me the other day and said ‘what did you post of me?’

“My nana has no TikTok or anything and she said, ‘someone stopped me in the grocery store and said your granddaughter’s so funny and talked about us at the US Open’.”

Despite her look, Ms Pearman said that her grandmother’s response was all in good fun.

She said: “She acts like she’s annoyed, but she loves every moment of it.”

Ms Pearman added: “She knows what she signed up for and she knows who her grandchildren are.

“If I feature her in my videos she’ll say things like ‘just make sure my make-up’s on’.

“She said that she didn’t expect anything less out of us.”
