Celebrity couple look forward to more time on island
Spending “more time in Bermuda and Europe” is on the cards for Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones now that their children have moved on from the family roost, as reported in the latest edition of the British weekly Hello! magazine.
Douglas, whose family links to the island have given him Bermudian status as well as his US citizenship, has been married to Zeta-Jones, a Welsh actor, since 2000.
The couple’s two children, Dylan, 25, and Carys, 22, have moved out of their $12 million family residence in Irvington, New York, which they have since put up for sale.
Zeta-Jones told Seth Myers in an appearance on Late Night that the couple were “thriving” in their new life after Carys moved out four years ago to attend Brown University.
She added that their children still “like to hang out with us”.
The magazine said the couple “now split their time between Bermuda and Europe” after putting their New York estate on the market.
Douglas’s father, Kirk Douglas, married Bermudian Diana Dill in 1943.
They were divorced in 1951 — but the family link has left the actor with Bermudian relatives and some notable ancestors on the island, such as Thomas Newbold Dill, a 19th century Member of the Colonial Parliament for Devonshire and a Mayor of Hamilton.
