Winners revealed for Great Christmas Carol-Off
Student choirs from four schools have been announced as the winners of Skyport’s third annual Great Christmas Carol-Off competition.
The top-performing groups will sing at the Winners Concert taking place at LF Wade International Airport on Saturday.
The Bermuda Institute won first place in the Middle/Secondary School category and also walked away with the People’s Choice Award.
Northlands Primary School picked up the top award in the Primary School category.
In second place for the Middle/Secondary category was The Berkeley Institute, and in second place for the Primary category was Dalton E. Tucker.
Ciara Eve, the head of brand development and communications at Skyport, said: “The Great Christmas Carol-Off has become a cherished holiday tradition, bringing together schools, families and the wider community in celebration of music and joy.
“The Winners Concert is the grand finale — a showcase of Bermuda’s young talent and a celebration of the season.
“Supporting events that uplift young people is central to Skyport’s mission and we are proud to invest in opportunities that nurture creativity, confidence and connection.”
The competition ran over three performances at the airport on December 2, 4 and 5.
The schools impressed the judges, Sakaela Jahstice, Narek Darbinyan and Ru-Zelda Severin, with their harmony, creativity and festive flair.
Winning schools will be awarded $5,000 each. The runners-up will get $2,000 and the People’s Choice Award winner will receive $1,200.
Skyport applauded the dedication of each choir, noting the creativity and energy they brought to the stage.
A spokeswoman for the operator said: “From traditional carols to performances featuring localised lyrics reflecting Bermuda’s culture, the event showcased the passion and promise of the island’s young musicians.”
The Winners Concert will take place from 7pm to 9pm.
Tickets are sold out, with limited standing room available.
Guests are invited to enjoy festive performances by the finalists, seasonal entertainment and a holiday vendor market offering local goods and treats.
Host Jesse Seymour will lead the evening, “guiding audiences through a night of music, celebration and holiday cheer”.
Complimentary parking will be available in the short-term lot, with overflow accommodated in the long-term lot.
