Hamilton to release town crier video

Crying out loud: Ed Christopher enjoys a carousel ride on his visit to Britain for international town crier competitions

A new animated video which celebrates Hamilton’s award-winning town crier and the rich history of the city will be unveiled next week.

The Day the Town Crier Went Missing, written by Hamilton’s public relations manager Helen Zoellner, is set to premiere on April 1.

A City spokeswoman said: “The short film follows two Bermudian children, Jax and Jada, as they search for the missing town crier by solving riddles and following clues hidden throughout the City.”

The characters visit many of the locations that town crier Ed Christopher highlights during his Discover Hamilton walking tours, which are also set to resume on April 1.

The spokeswoman added: “The animated video introduces young viewers to Hamilton’s history in an engaging and accessible way, blending storytelling, exploration and local heritage.

“Designed as an educational resource, the film encourages students to see familiar places with fresh eyes and develop a deeper appreciation for the City around them.”

Students from City schools will get to meet Mr Christopher and receive miniature bells and town crier-themed cookies during special screenings of the film next month.

Mr Christopher, who won four awards at an international town crier competition last year, hopes the video will show Hamilton “not just as a place they pass through, but as a place with meaning, character and pride”.

Jessica Astwood, Hamilton’s director of marketing and communications, said: “Helping our children understand the stories, places and people that shaped their island is essential to building a strong sense of identity and purpose.

“By giving them a window into where they come from, the City hopes to inspire pride, curiosity and a deeper connection to Bermuda and the City’s heritage.”

The free Discover Hamilton tour lasts about one hour and 45 minutes and take people to some of the City’s most famous landmarks.

The spokeswoman added: “Celebrating more than 30 years in the role, Mr Christopher draws on decades of research and generations of oral history to bring Hamilton’s history to life with insight, warmth and humour.

“Each tour is tailored to the group, ensuring a unique and memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.”

The daily tours are wheelchair accessible, include complimentary water and will run until December 31.

Walk-ins for the tour are welcome, but members of the public can contact cityofhamilton.bm or events@cityhall.bm to book in advance.
